28th TUI Cyprus Marathon to be Held in Paphos
On March 7 and 8, Paphos will host one of the island's largest sporting events — the 28th TUI Cyprus Marathon. The marathon has been held since 1999 and annually attracts thousands of participants from around the world.
The main race starts at the legendary Petra tou Romiou — the mythical birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite — and finishes at the Paphos Medieval Castle. The route runs along the scenic coast through Kouklia, Mandria, Timi, Acheleia, and Geroskipou.
The program also includes:
- Half Marathon (21 km)
- 10 km Race
- 5km Sunset Run on Saturday evening
More than 3,000 international participants are expected, providing a significant boost to the region's tourism sector.
Organizers are emphasizing sustainability: they plan to collect and recycle over a ton of plastic, and a volunteer cleanup of SODAP beach will take place on March 6.
Additionally, the marathon supports a social initiative — raising funds for a specialized sports wheelchair for people with disabilities.
