Tragedy in Nicosia: identity of woman killed in fire to be established by DNA

Authorities in Nicosia continue to investigate the circumstances of a fire that broke out on Christmas in a storage room on the roof of an apartment building on Evagorou Street (Old Town). A charred body was discovered at the scene.
On Sunday afternoon, a forensic examination was scheduled to determine whether death occurred as a result of the fire or due to another cause. At the same time, the identification process is being expedited, with plans to take a DNA sample.
According to investigators, there is already preliminary information regarding the identity of the deceased: initial assessments suggest she was a foreign woman. However, final conclusions will be made only after official verification, including DNA analysis. The causes of the fire are also still under investigation.
