Cyclone "Barbara" brings heavy rain to Cyprus, 37.4 mm recorded in Malia
On the evening of October 8, Cyclone "Barbara" caused heavy rain and strong winds across various parts of the island, local authorities reported. The event marked the beginning of the new hydrological year.
The rain and strong winds affected all districts of the island, with more intense precipitation along the coast. According to the Meteorological Service, the highest amount of rainfall — 37.4 mm — was recorded in the village of Malia in the mountainous part of the Limassol region. The rest of the Limassol region received 14.9 mm.
In Paphos, 33.5 mm were recorded, in Prodromos — 21.7 mm. In Larnaca, precipitation amounted to 5.3 mm, in Nicosia — 1.1 mm.
The Fire Service stated that there was no direct damage or casualties, except for a few isolated incidents in the Paphos, Larnaca, and Famagusta regions. These incidents were related to blocked storm drains and damage to power lines.
The cyclone will continue to influence Cyprus' weather until the evening of October 9, with rainfall intensity decreasing. Overcast skies, light rain, and possible thunderstorms are expected.
