At Larnaca Airport, a 36-year-old man wanted by Ukraine was detained
At Larnaca Airport on the evening of September 5, police detained a 36-year-old man whose details appeared in a “Red Notice” and who is wanted by the Ukrainian authorities in connection with a case of property theft through false representations and conspiracy. The arrest took place during passport control at around 18:30.
According to the police, during the document check it was found that a temporary detention order had been issued against the man; he was taken into custody to begin extradition proceedings to Ukraine. The case is being investigated by the Larnaca CID.
What this means for residents and visitors of Cyprus: airport services regularly cross-check data with international wanted lists, so when traveling it is important to have valid documents and be prepared for additional checks. Foreign nationals in similar situations are advised to immediately contact their consulate and, if necessary, a lawyer.
According to the police, the detention confirms the functioning of border control and cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies; details and further decisions on extradition will be announced after the completion of official procedures.
