On February 3, the Police of the British Bases in Dhekelia arrested two men suspected of stealing metal parts from decommissioned buses. According to law enforcement, the stolen parts, with a total value of about €10,000, were intended to be sold for scrap metal.

According to an official statement, the suspects — a Cypriot and a Greek citizen — were detained in the Ormidhia area during a police patrol. Officers found them near a fenced area where decommissioned buses were stored. During a search of the men's vehicle, parts removed from the buses were discovered.

Both detainees will appear before the Dhekelia British Bases Court on March 3. They face charges of theft.

Deputy Assistant Chief of Police of Dhekelia, Markos Petrou, noted that the arrest was made possible thanks to the prompt response of the patrol officers. According to him, metal thefts remain a serious problem, and in this case, there is significant material damage involved.

Additionally, a small amount of Class A drugs, presumably for personal use, was found during the arrest. The investigation continues.
