The Department of Environment has issued a positive opinion on the construction and operation of a new foamed plastic recycling facility in Industrial Zone No. 3, Agios Silas, Limassol. The project aims to recycle polymer waste, including foamed PVC, followed by the production of finished goods for the construction and industrial sectors.

The plant will produce up to 11,000 tons of foamed PVC sheets per year, as well as small volumes of plastic parts. The production process includes raw material preparation and mixing, molding, cooling, and cutting, as well as the casting of parts on specialized machines. The finished products will be used in the construction of buildings, fences, and decorative structures.

According to the environmental agency, the production system will be a closed-loop type, allowing residual materials to be recycled within the process and minimizing waste generation. However, dust emissions, as well as gaseous substances including hydrogen chloride and volatile organic compounds, are expected during operation.

To control the environmental impact, the facility will install air purification systems — bag filters to capture dust and activated carbon units to neutralize harmful gases. Authorities emphasize that the use of such technologies should reduce the environmental burden and ensure compliance with safety standards.
