New details emerge in Nicosia armed robbery series
Nicosia police have made a second arrest in connection with the investigation into a robbery and knife attack committed on May 9, 2026. As a result, a 21-year-old man has been detained, who, according to investigators, may be linked to the crime against the 32-year-old victim.
Previously, a 32-year-old suspect had already been arrested in the same case and has been in custody since May 13 by decision of the Nicosia District Court. The court authorized his detention for a period of eight days.
According to police, the incident occurred around 20:00 in one of the capital's neighborhoods. Two attackers demanded money from the man. During the assault, one of them inflicted a minor knife wound, while the second struck the victim with a wooden stick. Afterward, the perpetrators took his wallet containing cash and fled.
The investigation also revealed the possible involvement of one of the suspects in another armed robbery committed in July 2025 in Nicosia. In connection with this episode, a 20-year-old man was additionally arrested and also placed in custody.
The Nicosia Crime Investigation Department is continuing its investigative actions, not ruling out further detentions.
