Two suspects detained in Nicosia in drugs and weapons case
Officers of the Cyprus Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN) detained two men, aged 20 and 26, in Nicosia as part of an investigation into a case involving the discovery of drugs and firearms.
According to police, a court warrant for the arrest of the 20-year-old suspect had previously been issued. On Monday afternoon, officers located and arrested him at his residence in Nicosia.
During further operational action near the suspect's home, YKAN officers stopped the 26-year-old man. A search of his car uncovered about 40 grams of cannabis, as well as €1,245 in cash. Police believe the money may be linked to drug trafficking.
The 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences related to possession and the possible distribution of prohibited substances.
Both detainees remain in custody. They are expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court this morning, where the issue of their remand pending investigation will be considered.
The investigation is ongoing. Police are examining a possible link between the suspects and a broader drug trafficking network, as well as the origin of the seized weapon.
