Fraud case involving counterfeit smartphones under investigation in Paralimni
Cyprus Police are investigating a fraud case following a complaint filed by a 30-year-old man. The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, in the Paralimni area.
According to the investigation, the complainant was in an open area when he was approached by two unknown individuals who offered to sell mobile phones. The man showed interest in four smartphone models and agreed to purchase them for 2,000 euros.
After handing over the money and receiving the devices, the victim discovered that all four phones were not original but counterfeit. He then reported the matter to the police.
During the investigation, law enforcement authorities obtained testimony indicating the involvement of a 47-year-old man. He was arrested today on the basis of a court warrant.
It is expected that the suspect will be brought before the Famagusta District Court tomorrow, where the issue of pretrial detention during the further investigation will be considered.
Police continue to clarify all the circumstances of the case and do not rule out the involvement of other individuals in the fraud.
