In the Dekelia area, thefts have decreased by more than 50%
The Sovereign Base Areas Police in Cyprus reported on Friday that the number of thefts in the Dekelia area has dropped by over 50% since early June.
The reduction is linked to Operation "Razor," under which the Community Action Team (CAT) regularly focuses on key issues affecting residents' safety. Since June, 15 theft-related crimes have been recorded, and five suspects identified.
During the same period last year, 34 such cases were reported in the Dekelia area, meaning a 56% decrease. Police note that the focus on operational work and constant CAT presence contributed to the reduction in offenses.
Thefts are among the five priority crime categories alongside drug cases, organized crime, serious traffic violations, and emerging community issues. Bird catching remains a priority for police work, especially from October to February.
Markos Petrou, Deputy Division Chief overseeing CAT, stated that focusing on these five crime categories helps reduce harm, improve public safety, and strengthen citizens' trust. He also emphasized the importance of engagement with the community and confidentiality of shared information.
