On January 14, in the Pissouri area, Cyprus police discovered the body of a man believed to be Vladislav Baumgertner, the former Chief Executive Officer of Uralkali. The businessman was 56 years old.

According to the preliminary version of law enforcement authorities, Baumgertner may have fallen from a cliff during a solo climb. It is known that he was fond of extreme activities, including rock climbing. As a result of the fall from height, the body sustained multiple injuries, making visual identification difficult — DNA testing will likely be required to confirm his identity.

Baumgertner, who had been living in Limassol for a long time, stopped making contact on January 7. On that day, according to police, he took a taxi to the coastal area of Pissouri, intending to go rock climbing. According to mobile billing data, that was where his phone was last registered on the network.

After the man did not return home, relatives contacted the police. A large-scale search and rescue operation was launched involving police officers, rescuers, volunteers, and military personnel from the British Sovereign Base Areas. Drones were actively used during the search, especially in the hard-to-reach area of Cape Aspro, where the body was ultimately found.

According to sources, the investigation currently has no grounds to suspect a criminal nature of the incident. Police are treating the case as an accident, however final conclusions will be made after all examinations are completed.
