Fire Breaks Out in Abandoned Residential Complex in Chloraka, Paphos
A fire erupted early Wednesday morning at the abandoned Saint Nicholas complex in Chloraka, Paphos. Although the area is closed off and under surveillance, migrants continue to reside there.
According to police reports, the fire started in one of the apartments in the complex. Two fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, and firefighters managed to control the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other apartments.
The fire caused damage to the floor and walls of the affected apartment.
It's important to note that last year, riots occurred at the residential complex where hundreds of migrants were living in dire conditions. This unrest followed the authorities' decision to cut off water and electricity, declaring the building scheduled for demolition.
Despite the complex being closed and secured since September of last year, illegal migrants continue to intermittently settle in abandoned buildings.
