Turnout in Cyprus elections nears 50%
By 15:00, 285,502 people had voted in parliamentary elections in Cyprus, which represents 49.8% of the total number of registered voters. Compared with the 2021 elections, turnout increased by 4.7 percentage points.
According to the published data, the highest turnout was recorded in the Famagusta region — 53.9%, followed by Nicosia — 52.4% and Paphos — 51.2%. In Larnaca, 49.4% of voters cast their ballots, while in Limassol — 44.9%.
Outside the island, 46.2% of registered citizens took part in the vote. For the first time in parliamentary elections, a separate ballot box is being used in Brussels, where Cypriots registered in various districts live.
The Cypriot authorities noted that the process is taking place calmly and without serious incidents. Voting will continue until 18:00, after which ballot counting will begin.
Representatives of the election authorities urged citizens not to postpone their visit to polling stations until the last moment in order to avoid queues before the polling stations close.
It is expected that the first preliminary results will become known in the evening, while the final composition of the new parliament will be determined overnight.
