In Cyprus, a quarter of the monthly rainfall average fell in just one day
Despite the intense heat, rain showers graced Cyprus on Sunday. Within a single day, the country received up to 25% of its total June rainfall.
According to the Department of Meteorology of the Republic of Cyprus, Sunday's rainfall amounted to 25% of the total monthly precipitation, as the rest of June had been dry.
By June 9th, the average precipitation stood at 1.5 mm, falling short of the monthly norm of 6 mm. Furthermore, no rainfall was recorded in any part of Cyprus during the first week of June.
The Sunday storm brought 18 mm of rain, a staggering 171% above the monthly average. Specifically, in Prodromos, 9.6 mm of rainfall was recorded due to Sunday showers, accounting for 48% of the June norm.
Minor showers also occurred in other parts of Cyprus over the weekend, although the precipitation amounts were very low.
