Two workers injured in falls from height in Iskele and near Serdarlı
According to the police press office, two workers were injured yesterday in Northern Cyprus following falls from height in Iskele and near Serdarlı on the Iskele–Ercan highway. The incidents occurred in the afternoon.
Around 14:30, at a site in Iskele during well-drilling work, Ahmed Butt (38) was attempting to untangle a stuck drilling rig cable when he lost his balance and fell 3.80 meters onto the ground. He was taken to the Famagusta State Hospital, where he was diagnosed with fractured ribs and spine; Butt was subsequently transferred to the Near East Hospital in Yeniboğaziçi and placed under observation.
Around 15:00, at a construction site of an active enterprise on the Iskele–Ercan highway near Serdarlı, Mehmet Yılmaz (41) was laying sandwich panels on a roof when he lost his balance and fell 8 meters onto a concrete surface. He was hospitalized at the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia; a fractured right ankle and spinal fracture were identified. Following surgery, Yılmaz remains in the neurosurgery department under observation.
Police investigations into both cases are ongoing.
