Lapta–Alsancak–Çamlıbel Municipality Issues Statement on Excavations
The Lapta–Alsancak–Çamlıbel Municipality has issued an official clarification regarding claims circulating on social media about excavations at the old Greek cemetery in Lapta.
The statement emphasizes that the work is being carried out by the Committee on Missing Persons, not the municipality. The excavations are conducted solely for humanitarian purposes—to determine the fate of missing persons—and are performed with the permission of relatives.
Upon completion of the work, the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage will handle the restoration of the area.
The municipality urged citizens not to trust unverified information and to rely only on official statements.
