Ban on lighting fires introduced in TRNC until October 31: firefighters strengthen security measures

The Fire Service under the TRNC General Directorate of Police has announced a total ban on lighting any fire in the territory until October 31. The restriction even applies to the burning of plant waste as part of cleaning.
In a statement titled "Timely Precautions Prevent Disaster," authorities warn that violating the rules could lead to uncontrolled fires and large-scale forest fires. Citizens are urged to strictly comply with current legislation.
The Fire Service reminds that upon detecting smoke or fire, it is necessary to immediately report to the emergency services: 199 (Fire Service), 177 (Forest Service), or 155 (Police).
Special attention is paid to rules of conduct in natural areas. Lighting fires and preparing barbecues is prohibited outside of specially equipped picnic and recreation areas. In permitted locations, increased caution must be observed, and flammable materials must not be allowed nearby.
The need to completely extinguish charcoal and cigarette butts before disposal is separately emphasized. They must not be thrown on roadsides, in forests, garbage containers, or on dry vegetation.
Authorities warn that even a minor violation can cause a fire with serious consequences for nature, property, and human safety.
