Police detained a man with a kilogram of drugs in a car in Lefkoşa
During operational activities, officers from the anti-narcotics department carried out a successful arrest in Lefkoşa. In the Minareliköy area, police stopped a suspicious vehicle driven by 34-year-old Hüseyin Bilgiç. As a result of a thorough search of the vehicle, a substance suspected to be a narcotic weighing approximately one kilogram was discovered and seized.
The suspect was immediately brought to the Lefkoşa court for a remand hearing. During the first hearing, investigators reported that the seized substance had been sent for expert analysis to precisely determine its composition and weight. Police are also investigating the detainee's possible involvement in a network for distributing illegal substances within the country. Investigators emphasized the need for additional time to analyze the suspect's mobile phone and review CCTV footage.
The judge, after hearing the prosecution's arguments, ordered Hüseyin Bilgiç to be held in custody for three days for further investigation. Northern Cyprus police continue to strengthen road controls and conduct raids aimed at curbing illegal drug trafficking. Following the laboratory results and interrogations, the case is expected to be brought to trial for a hearing on the merits in the near future.
