74 traffic accidents in the TRNC in a week: 29 people injured, 9 drivers arrested
According to the press office of the TRNC police, 74 road traffic accidents were recorded in Northern Cyprus between 3—9 November, resulting in 29 people being injured, while 55 incidents led only to material damage.
Of the total number of accidents, 19 resulted in injuries, and 55 in vehicle damage. The most common cause of accidents was speeding: 25 cases. Other causes included failure to stop at intersections (18), inattentive driving (16), following too closely behind another vehicle (9), and other factors (6).
The total amount of material damage was 3,760,000 Turkish lira. Distribution by districts: 31 accidents in Lefkoşa, 20 in Girne, 15 in Famagusta, 5 in İskele, and 3 in Güzelyurt.
During preventive operations, police checked 17,103 drivers. As a result, 2,826 drivers were penalized and legal procedures were initiated against them. A total of 260 vehicles were removed from traffic, and 9 drivers were arrested.
The frequency of recorded violations by category: speeding — 913, driving without a registration certificate — 319, failure to obey traffic signs and markings — 195, driving without technical inspection — 123, speed violations detected by mobile devices — 94, drunk driving — 76, driving an uninsured vehicle — 63, and other violations.
