Suspect Detained at Ercan Airport to Remain in Custody for 2 More Days
At Ercan Airport in Northern Cyprus on March 13, 2026, at 16:48, a suspect identified as Ç.B. was detained while attempting to enter the TRNC after narcotics dog Pamir alerted officers. During a search, a substance weighing approximately one gram, which police believe to be cannabis, was found and seized from the suspect's shoes.
At the court hearing, police officer Tutku Kızıltaç testified, outlining the circumstances of the detention and the progress of the investigation. According to her, a three-day remand had previously been obtained to carry out necessary investigative actions; during this period, the seized substance was sent for forensic examination, the results of which are not yet available. The police requested a two-day extension of the detention to clarify circumstances and to confirm or refute the suspect's statements.
After reviewing the submitted materials, Judge Şevket Gazi granted the request and ordered the suspect to remain in custody for an additional two days. The investigation continues, awaiting the results of the laboratory analysis of the seized substance.
