TRNC Police Confirm No Drugs Found in Children’s Candy
The TRNC Police have responded to social media posts alleging that drug-laced candy was being distributed to children for free in Northern Cyprus. After conducting an investigation, they confirmed that no banned substances were found in the sweets.
Last Wednesday, rumors began circulating on social media and in certain media outlets, claiming that children in the TRNC were being offered free candies containing drugs. These reports raised significant concerns among parents.
“The incident being referred to actually took place abroad and is in no way related to our country,” the police said in an official statement following a review of the reports.
The TRNC Police General Directorate also confirmed that no complaints had been received regarding this issue. However, they added that “in case these types of candies might be brought into the TRNC, customs and tax officers have been alerted to be vigilant.”
The police also reminded the public that if they encounter a similar situation, they can reach out to 24-hour emergency hotlines: “155” for police and ambulance services, and “156” for the narcotics department, or any other emergency lines.
