Unions Demand Reversal of Sharp Fuel Price Hike
The head of one of the unions, Bıçaklı, has criticized the sharp increase in fuel prices and called on the government to reconsider its decision.
In a written statement, he noted that the authorities are using global conflict as an excuse for the significant rise in fuel prices, effectively attempting to shift budgetary problems onto the citizens.
According to Bıçaklı, the Minister of Energy had stated just the day before that fuel prices would rise by approximately 2.5 Turkish Liras per liter; however, by the following day, the increase amounted to 6–7 Liras, which he described as unacceptable.
He also warned that the rise in fuel costs will automatically lead to price hikes for most goods, which will sharply increase the cost of living and significantly reduce the population's purchasing power.
Consequently, the union urged the government to cancel the "astronomical" fuel price increase and review its decision.
