Dairy Producers Urge Government to Suspend Imports
On March 10, 2026, the Dairy Producers Association in Northern Cyprus appealed to the government to take temporary measures to restrict the import of milk and dairy products.
The Association's statement points out that the recent economic slowdown and decline in tourism have led to a significant decrease in domestic consumption of dairy products. According to their data, this is putting pressure on all links in the industry—from farmers and feed producers to processors and distributors.
The Association notes that the sector provides livelihoods for about 54,000 people and is strategically important for the economy. As urgent measures, they propose temporarily suspending the import of milk and dairy products to Northern Cyprus or increasing duties and levies on these goods.
The message emphasizes that the proposed steps are temporary in nature and are not intended to restrict competition, but are aimed at protecting local production during a difficult period. The Association called on government authorities and stakeholders to take necessary measures to preserve production stability, food security, and rural development.
