The ruling National Unity Party (UBP) intends to hold elections on schedule — in January 2027, despite increasing calls for early voting. This was stated by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.

According to him, holding early elections in June is not being considered. At the same time, the head of government allowed that the electoral calendar could be revised depending on the development of the situation in the Middle East. He emphasized that in conditions of crises, the priority remains the stable work of the government and the well-being of citizens.

Üstel noted that the party is ready for elections at any moment, but sees no need to accelerate the process. "UBP has never shied away from elections and is always ready for them," he stated, adding that an early start to the campaign could plunge the country into an election agenda for a long time.

An additional factor is the municipal elections scheduled for December. The authorities intend to take both electoral processes into account to avoid a long period of political tension.

A similar position was voiced by Labor Minister Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, emphasizing that the decision on the timing of the elections will be made by the government, not the opposition or trade unions. He also confirmed that the elections are planned for January 2027.

In turn, UBP Secretary General Ahmet Savaşan stated that internal poll results show approximately equal support for UBP and the Republican Turkish Party, despite other assessments in the public space.

Thus, the authorities demonstrate a commitment to holding elections on time, while reserving the possibility of adjusting the schedule taking into account the regional and political situation.
