Detention extended for man in Famagusta over assault on woman with disability

The Famagusta Court has extended the detention of a 34-year-old man for another three days, suspected of the forcible detention and sexual assault of a 51-year-old woman with intellectual disabilities.
According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of May 8 in the Piyale Pasha area. Police Sergeant Lokman Yüceatürk testified in court that the suspect, identified by the initials I.L., forcibly took the woman to his home, where, according to the investigation, he committed a sexual crime against her.
The incident came to light after the victim's sister went to the suspect's house, took the woman away, and contacted the Famagusta police. After filing a statement, the victim was taken to a state hospital, where doctors recorded evidence relevant to the investigation.
The suspect was detained on the same day. On May 9, he first appeared in court, which authorized a three-day detention for investigative purposes.
During the new court session, police reported that the accused claimed he was incapable of performing a sexual act. However, a medical examination conducted by a specialist refuted this claim.
The investigation continues to examine evidence and gather witness testimony. Given the need to complete the investigation, the court granted the police's request to extend the arrest for another three days.
