Excess pesticide detected in imported apples in Northern Cyprus — two samples identified
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources published its weekly food inspection results on August 29, 2025: in batches of imported apples, two samples were found with pesticide residues above the permissible level.
According to the ministry, out of 31 tested samples of imported products, 29 were clean and two exceeded the limits. In one case, the products of REE Tic. (owner — Cahide Kılıç) were destroyed at the company’s request, while in another case the batch was returned to the supplier at the place of origin.
In the inspection of local products, all 16 samples showed no exceedances — 16 out of 16 were clean, the ministry noted.
For residents of Northern Cyprus, this means that the current control system detects and removes non-compliant batches; however, it is recommended to wash imported fruits thoroughly before consumption and pay attention to the country of origin when purchasing. The ministry did not announce any need for an additional recall of other batches; according to official data, withdrawal and return measures were carried out at the initiative of the importers.
