TRNC Parliament discusses regional crisis: "The State has no right to panic"
In the General Assembly of the TRNC Parliament today, March 3, 2026, the sharp escalation in the Middle East following large-scale US and Israeli attacks on Iran last Saturday was discussed during current speeches.
Erkut Şahali, an MP from the opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP), stated that in the face of growing military tensions, the state must remain cool-headed. According to him, the authorities are obliged to prepare in advance for possible crises, including disruptions in logistics and the supply of essential goods to the island.
"The state has no right to panic. Decisions must be made in a timely manner, and official communications must be clear and originate from a single crisis center," Şahali emphasized. He noted that special attention should be paid to the resilience of the healthcare system and the continuity of supply chains.
Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, in response, assured that the government has an emergency action plan. "Citizens can rest assured. At the moment, the TRNC is not under direct threat," the minister stated. During the meeting, MPs also called for an immediate reduction of tensions in the region.
