Robotic surgeries performed in Northern Cyprus
A new era in medicine has begun in the TRNC: the country has successfully utilized robotic surgical technology for the first time. Over the last two days, doctors performed four surgeries using advanced robotic systems.
The operations were carried out by the team of urologist-surgeon Dr. Eralp Kubilay, with the support of specialists from the İbni Sina Hospital at Ankara University — Professors Ömer Gülpınar and Evren Süer.
Robotic surgery is considered one of the most advanced technologies in modern medicine. The system allows operations to be performed with high precision thanks to 3D visualization and instruments capable of millimeter-accurate movements. Such technologies are particularly actively used in urology, gynecology, and general surgery.
For patients, robotic surgeries offer several advantages over traditional surgery: smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, minimal risk of infection, and faster post-operative recovery. Doctors note that patients can return to their daily lives significantly faster.
In medical circles, the launch of robotic surgery is already being called an important step for the entire healthcare system of Northern Cyprus. Specialists believe that the introduction of new technologies will not only improve the quality of medical services but also strengthen the TRNC's position as a center for regional medical tourism.
It is expected that in the coming years, robotic surgeries will be introduced in other areas of medicine, and the number of such procedures on the island will continue to grow.
