June 2024 became the hottest month in Cyprus' climatological history
June 2024 has been recorded as the hottest month in Cyprus' meteorological history. This is confirmed by data collected from meteorological stations across the island.
According to a statement from the Meteorology Department, 43 out of 52 stations recorded the highest maximum temperatures ever recorded during their operation.
Along the coast, the average daily maximum temperature was 3.6 to 4.1°C above the June norms observed by each station. Inland areas registered an average daily maximum temperature exceeding the norm by 5.7°C, and at the Prodromos Forestry College mountain station, it was 5.6°C above average.
The average daily minimum temperature on the island's coast was 3.2 to 4.9°C above normal, while inland areas exceeded the norm by 3.9°C, and in the mountains by 4.7°C.
Moreover, at all semi-mountainous stations (elevations 300 m - 600 m) and at 14 out of 16 stations located in mountainous regions (elevations 600 m - 1650 m), the highest maximum temperatures ever recorded during their operation were registered in June of this year.
Out of the Meteorology Department's 25 stations located in plains or low-lying areas, only seven did not record temperature records in June this year.
