Larnaca to get marina and port: projects to run in parallel under new model
Cypriot Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades confirmed that the development of Larnaca's marina and port will be implemented under a refreshed scheme — as two separate but simultaneously executed projects. He stated this on state radio, emphasizing that the new approach is considered safer.
According to the minister, splitting the projects avoids a situation where one could negatively impact the other, as could potentially have happened under the previous implementation model.
The state plans to proceed to the practical phase of the work in the near future. Vafeades noted that the relevant technical study was not contested by the Municipality of Larnaca, and state participation will be ensured through the Port Authority.
Responding to public concerns about possible delays or even cancellation of the project, the minister assured that implementation will continue without deviations from the plan. He recalled that this is a long-standing initiative that the residents of Larnaca have been waiting for about 20 years.
The port modernization and marina construction project is seen as a key element of the city's development, capable of enhancing its economic and tourist appeal.
