Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus travels to Brunei
Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos will travel to Brunei to participate in the 25th ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting. The talks will take place on April 27–28, 2026, in Bandar Seri Begawan.
ASEAN brings together Southeast Asian countries and is one of the EU's key partners. The ministerial meeting is held every two years and serves as the main mechanism for political dialogue between the two blocs. Foreign ministers of member states, as well as representatives of EU and ASEAN institutions, will attend the event.
The meeting is expected to be an important step in preparation for the 2027 anniversary summit, marking 50 years of relations between the EU and ASEAN. The main goal is to further deepen cooperation and move towards a comprehensive strategic partnership format.
The agenda focuses on international security and multilateral engagement, digital transformation, energy resilience, supply chain protection, and maritime security.
Cyprus' participation is linked to its presidency priorities aimed at strengthening the EU's presence in the Indo-Pacific region and developing bilateral ties with Southeast Asian countries.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Kombos plans to hold several bilateral talks with colleagues from ASEAN countries and the organization's Secretary-General.
