A 17-year-old student in Cyprus has been hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Nicosia General Hospital after developing sepsis caused by bacterial meningitis. His condition remains critical.
According to Haralambos Harilaou, spokesperson for the Health and Social Welfare Organization, the teenager is under constant medical supervision, and doctors are doing everything they can to save his life.
"We are all hoping and praying that he responds to treatment. Contact tracing has already begun," Harilaou stated.
Meanwhile, regarding a second case of bacterial meningitis in a six-month-old infant, he confirmed that the baby remains at Makarios Hospital but is showing signs of improvement and responding well to treatment.
Last week, Cyprus reported two cases of bacterial meningitis in children on the same day. Health officials have confirmed that there is no connection between the cases.
