Number of building permits in Cyprus rose sharply in early 2026
The Statistical Service has reported a significant increase in construction activity in Cyprus in January 2026. According to the published data, 789 building permits were issued during the month, reflecting a notable recovery in the real estate and infrastructure development sector.
The total value of the approved projects reached 445.2 million euros, and the total building area amounted to 346.7 thousand square meters. Within the framework of the issued permits, the construction of 1,755 residential units is planned, indicating active residential development.
In annual comparison, the indicators show a sharp increase. Compared to January of the previous year, the number of permits increased by 76.9%, their total value by 92.9%, and the construction area by 82.5%. The dynamics for residential units were particularly striking, with the number more than doubling by 109.4%.
Experts note that such substantial growth may indicate both a recovery in investment activity in the construction sector and increased demand for housing against the backdrop of demographic and economic factors.
Thus, the beginning of 2026 has become a period of accelerated growth for the Cyprus construction industry, which could set the tone for the development of the real estate market for the entire coming year.
