Night Police Raids in Cyprus: 10 Detained and Hundreds of Checks
Cyprus police carried out large-scale preventive operations across the country last night, with intensified patrols in urban areas. The main aim of the measures was to prevent serious crimes, maintain public order, and strengthen the sense of safety among the public.
As a result of the raids, 10 people were detained on various charges, including illegal possession of property, burglaries, drug-related offenses, as well as violations of immigration law.
During the operations, police officers stopped 459 vehicles for inspection and checked 593 drivers and passengers. At the same time, inspections were carried out at 45 premises, resulting in 16 administrative reports.
Special attention was paid to traffic control. Overnight, police issued 221 fines for various violations, 88 of them for speeding. In addition, 209 breathalyzer tests were carried out: 14 drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Police officers also conducted four rapid drug tests, three of which returned positive results. As part of the checks, two vehicles were seized.
The police stressed that such operations continue on a daily basis. The department says that an enhanced law enforcement presence, spot checks, and оперативные actions are aimed at protecting citizens and preventing crime across the country.
