UN considers two scenarios for Cyprus: focus on strategic agreement or new plan
The United Nations is discussing two possible directions for further action on the Cyprus issue. This was reported with reference to a publication in the Sunday press, detailing meetings between Special Representative Maria Ángela Holguín and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
According to sources, two main scenarios were considered during the talks. The first, which is considered a priority, suggests that the parties to the conflict will be able to agree on a strategic document defining further steps in the negotiation process.
The second option involves the preparation and presentation of a ready-made settlement plan based on a loose federation model.
At the same time, it is noted that various interpretations and information leaks are emerging around the discussions, which may cause confusion in the public perception of the process.
The UN, as emphasized, seeks to determine the most realistic way forward for the negotiations, taking into account the current political situation and the positions of the parties.
