Schedule released for the visit of the UN Secretary-General's Envoy to Cyprus
The Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, will arrive on the island on January 29. The Colombian diplomat will hold meetings with the leaders of both communities on the island.
According to sources from the Cyprus News Agency, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative will arrive one day before the planned meetings on January 30 with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, and the leader of the Turkish Cypriots, Ersin Tatar.
Maria Angela Olguin Cuellar will be received by the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative and the head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Colin Stewart.
It is also expected that the Personal Envoy will hold a series of meetings with negotiators from both sides, diplomats, UNFICYP peacekeepers, members of the Committee on Missing Persons, representatives of civil society, and visit the buffer zone and the closed city of Varosha.
Additionally, the diplomat will meet with the British High Commissioner, as well as the Ambassadors of Greece and the United States.
