Passenger traffic in Cyprus has decreased: The aviation market is adapting to new conditions
Cypriot airports in April recorded a 16% decrease in passenger traffic compared to the same month last year, equivalent to a reduction of approximately 95,000 passengers. According to Hermes Airports, the average flight load at Larnaca and Paphos airports was 76% compared to 83% a year earlier. At the same time, adjustments to the flight schedule for the summer season remain moderate: the overall decrease in available seats does not exceed 5%, or about 600,000.
It is expected that for the period from April to October, the total decrease in passenger traffic could reach 9%, which is approximately 450,000 people. However, the situation shows signs of stabilization: since the end of April, flight loads have increased to 80–85%, and in key markets — the UK and Poland — exceed 90%. Hermes Airports emphasizes that the changes mainly concern a reduction in flight frequency rather than the cancellation of routes, while air connectivity remains broad — 54 airlines operate flights to 165 destinations in 42 countries.
