Theft of Five Power Line Supports with Wires Near Limassol
Five supports owned by the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) and the attached overhead cables were stolen in the village of Ayios Mamas near Limassol.
According to the police, the incident was reported on Wednesday afternoon by an EAC worker who was in the village for repair work.
Representatives from EAC and police officers have already visited the site of the equipment theft. Inspection revealed that the poles were cut down, and a 900-meter overhead cable was cut and stolen. Criminal investigation officers from Limassol were called to the scene to gather evidence. They also took photographs of the sawn-off poles.
According to specialists' estimates, the cost of the five supports is 2,092 euros, and the stolen cables amount to 4,140 euros.
According to the police, the incident most likely occurred between January 15 and 17. It is challenging to determine the exact date and time of the offenses because only an isolated irrigation pump is powered from the specific power lines.
It is worth noting that the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) had previously reported an increase in cases of equipment theft from the company's distribution network. The thefts mainly involve transformers located on wooden supports, overhead wires of medium and low-voltage power lines, as well as equipment in the buildings of distribution substations.
