Cyprus police carried out mass raids: 10 detained and more than 100 speeding fines

Cyprus police have summed up the large-scale preventive operations carried out overnight in various parts of the island. As a result of the raids, ten people were detained, and the number of traffic violations was once again high.

According to police, the operations included reinforced patrols in urban areas and checks at key locations aimed at preventing crime, maintaining public order and improving public safety.

The detentions were linked to various offences, including unlawful entry onto private property, possession of burglary tools, drugs and weapons, assault on a police officer, carrying a bladed weapon, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.

During the operations, police officers stopped 510 vehicles for checks and screened 639 people. In addition, 39 establishments were inspected, with five violations recorded as a result.

Particular attention was paid to road safety. A total of 375 fines were issued for various traffic offences. The most common violation was speeding — police recorded 117 such cases.

Five drivers were also detained for driving under the influence of alcohol, and preliminary tests on two more people showed the presence of narcotic substances in their bodies.

Overnight, police carried out 70 breathalyser tests and four drug tests. In addition, law enforcement officers are investigating nine road accidents and have impounded eight vehicles.

The police stressed that such operations will continue on a regular basis across the island.
