Last night, Cyprus police carried out large-scale preventive operations across the country, stepping up patrols in key areas of cities. The main aim of the raids was to prevent crime, maintain public order and improve public safety.

As a result of the operations, eight people were detained. The charges included illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus, possession and transport of offensive weapons, assault causing bodily harm, as well as illegal possession of drugs.

During the checks, police officers stopped 307 vehicles and checked 422 people — drivers and passengers. At the same time, inspections were carried out at 31 premises, resulting in seven violation reports.

Particular attention was paid to traffic control. Overnight, police issued 196 fines for various traffic violations. The largest number of violations — 82 cases — was related to speeding.

In addition, traffic police officers carried out 86 alcohol tests. Six drivers were found to be behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol. Three drug tests were also conducted, two of which came back positive.

As part of the operations, police impounded two vehicles.

Law enforcement authorities said such raids would continue in the future as well. According to the police, an increased presence on the streets, targeted inspections and operational measures are aimed at combating crime and ensuring public safety across the country.
