Israeli Ambassador to Cyprus calls for an end to "divisive rhetoric"
The Israeli Ambassador to Cyprus, Anolik, issued a statement in defense of the Israeli community and investments on the island. The diplomat emphasized that relations between Israel and Cyprus are based on mutual respect, shared values, and long-standing friendship, and that attempts to portray the presence of Israelis as a threat are concerning.
According to the ambassador, statements questioning the role of Israeli investors have recently become more frequent in the public and political spheres. Anolik noted that the use of terms such as "takeover" or "uncontrolled influence" creates a dangerous and divisive rhetoric.
The diplomat stated that such remarks echo historical stereotypes about "foreign economic power" and could contribute to the rise of anti-Semitic sentiments. He stressed that the Israeli community in Cyprus consists of families, entrepreneurs, and professionals who are integrated into society, create jobs, and participate in the life of the country.
The ambassador also noted that many Israelis view Cyprus as a second home due to their respect for the island's culture and lifestyle. According to him, economic and social cooperation between the two countries should not be perceived as a form of dependency, but is part of the modern global economy.
In conclusion, Anolik called on politicians, public figures, and citizens to abandon inflammatory statements and maintain an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual trust between the two peoples.
