Livestock farmers protest in Paliometocho: Transportation of dead animals completed without incident

In the Paliometocho area, the transportation of dead animals to the burial site designated by the Veterinary Services has been completed, despite protests by livestock farmers who temporarily blocked roads on Monday afternoon.
According to police, about 50 livestock farmers held a brief mobilization, attempting to prevent the transport of dead cows to the "buffer zone". Protesters expressed concern that the route passes close to livestock farms and could pose a risk of spreading foot-and-mouth disease.
Law enforcement agencies reported that the protest ended peacefully, without incidents or official complaints. The transportation of the animals was continued and completed according to plan.
Stella Petrou, a representative of the "Livestock Farmers' Voice" association, stated that the protesters have grounds for concern. According to her, the association believes that the transportation and burial of the animals are being carried out without full compliance with the necessary protocols.
"It is unacceptable for dead animals to be transported near farms," she emphasized.
It is also reported that a meeting took place on Monday between representatives of the association and the Veterinary Services. According to Petrou, the organization plans to issue an official statement after negotiations at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment with Minister Maria Panayiotou.
