Monument to Cyprus’ National Heroes to Be Installed in Paralimni
The Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia has announced plans to build a monument honoring Cyprus' national heroes, Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou. The monument will feature two statues, which will be installed once the necessary construction permits are obtained and the project is approved by the Monuments Committee.
According to the municipality’s statement, an application for planning permission will be submitted, followed by a public tender for the construction of the monument. The statues will be created by renowned sculptor Philippos Yiapanis.
Mayor Giorgos Nikolettos recently met with members of the Isaac and Solomou families. Attending the meeting were Tasoula and Anastasia Isaac, the mother and daughter of Tassos Isaac, and Angelos Kyriakou, representing the Solomou family. Representatives from the Isaac–Solomou Memorial Initiative and sculptor Philippos Yiapanis also took part.
The families expressed their gratitude to the municipality for moving forward with the project. Mayor Nikolettos reaffirmed the municipality’s support for the families and emphasized that the monument aims to keep alive the memory of the two heroes while also educating the public about their sacrifice and the broader Cyprus issue.
