Vice President of Turkey held closed meetings with administration representatives in Northern Cyprus
On August 24, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz held a series of private meetings with administration representatives in Northern Cyprus. According to Turkish Cypriot media, the talks took place at the building of the “Turkish Embassy” in the northern part of Nicosia after the completion of the official part of the politician’s visit.
The meetings lasted about 15 minutes each and, as noted, had an informal character, going beyond the announced agreements. Among those present were Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu, Minister of Finance Özdemir Berova, and Minister of Transport Erhan Arıklı. There were reports of some officials arriving in private cars instead of official vehicles — presumably to maintain confidentiality. However, the identities of some participants remained undisclosed.
According to the publication, Yılmaz’s visit is seen as yet another confirmation of Ankara’s active involvement in the internal affairs of Northern Cyprus. Such steps traditionally attract additional interest in possible changes in the region’s economic and administrative policies.
For residents of Southern Cyprus, such events are important for understanding the current political situation on the island and possible changes in the dynamics of intercommunal contacts, as well as potential risks to long-term stability.
