Big Hunting Season Kicks Off in Northern Cyprus: Six Violators Caught on Opening Day
This past weekend marked the start of the "big hunting" season in Northern Cyprus, and on the very first day, police apprehended six hunters for violating the law.
According to the police press office, there were no reported injuries or negative incidents during the opening day of the hunting season.
However, inspections carried out by police teams and game wardens across the country revealed that six individuals were illegally hunting in areas that were closed to hunting. Legal action has been initiated against these violators.
As a reminder, the big hunting season in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) commenced on November 3. Hunters will have a total of 12 hunting days, which include November 3, 10, 17, 24, and December 1, 8, 15, 22, 25, 29, and January 1 and 5 in 2025.
During this big hunting season, hunters are allowed to pursue plains rabbits, partridges, francolins, pheasants, sandpipers, quails, wild pigeons, rock pigeons, crows, and magpies.
The General Directorate of Police and the Hunting Federation have urged hunters to adhere to the established regulations.
Additionally, the animal protection organization "Golden Paws" has issued a warning, reminding hunters that it is illegal to publicly share images of hunted animals.
Violators may face fines ranging from 1 to 20 times the minimum wage, or imprisonment for up to five years.
