April 23 celebrated in Değirmenlik with ceremony at Atatürk Monument
In Northern Cyprus, in the Değirmenlik region (within the Akıncılar municipality), a solemn event was held on April 23, 2026, dedicated to April 23 — National Sovereignty and Children's Day.
The holiday was marked by a military ceremony in front of the Atatürk Monument located in Değirmenlik. In Northern Cyprus, this event is held in honor of Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who dedicated April 23 to the children of the world.
During the event, wreaths were laid, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the fallen. Afterward, the İstiklal Marşı (Independence March) was performed.
The celebration concluded with the signing of the Anıt Özel Defteri — the "Special Memorial Book" — by Major Ertan Önal, Deputy Commander of the 14th Armored Brigade for Tanks. The ceremony was organized in a solemn atmosphere, emphasizing the significance of the national day and children's rights.
