The Ministry of Agriculture of the TRNC reported the detection of exceeding the permissible levels of plant protection products in several products following inspections conducted from April 24 to 30. Both imported and local agricultural goods came under increased scrutiny.

A total of 52 samples were analyzed in the state laboratory: 21 imported and 31 domestic. Most products complied with European safety standards — 20 imported and 28 local samples were found to be clean.

However, violations were still identified. Excessive concentrations of pesticides were found in imported strawberries — the batch was seized and destroyed. Among local products, issues were recorded in green beans, green peppers, and tomatoes. In one case, the use of an unauthorized substance was detected, in others — exceeding the permissible norms.

Specifically, the beans were destroyed, and the harvest of peppers and tomatoes was temporarily suspended until further laboratory tests are completed.

The department emphasized that inspections are conducted in accordance with EU standards and are aimed at protecting consumer health. If violations are detected, immediate measures are taken, including the withdrawal of products from the market.

Experts note that such cases highlight the need for strict control over the use of agrochemicals and compliance with instructions by manufacturers. Authorities urge farmers to follow established norms, and consumers — not to neglect washing and processing vegetables and fruits before consumption.
