Two Suspects Detained at Ercan Airport in Fake Passport Case
Two Somali nationals were detained at Ercan Airport on suspicion of using forged documents and attempting to provide false information when entering the country. The court ordered both to be held in custody for three days for further investigation.
The incident occurred on May 21, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m., when one of the suspects, Abdullahi Roble Mohamed, attempted to pass border control by presenting Somali passports issued in the names of his wife and two children. According to police, the documents raised suspicion among the officers on duty, after which the man and his alleged companion were detained.
During the court hearing, police officer Erdem Khan said the arrest was made directly at the airport at the moment the documents were being used. He noted that the investigation is at an early stage and that the four seized passports have been sent for examination.
According to the investigation, one of those detained may be involved in a broader scheme for illegally bringing people into the country, in which entry was carried out under the guise of family members or relatives. These details are now being checked by law enforcement authorities.
The police asked the court to extend the period of detention in order to carry out additional investigative actions. After reviewing the materials, the court granted the request and ordered the suspects to be held for three days.
The investigation is ongoing.
