Eastern Mediterranean University to host conference on intellectual property and arbitration
A scientific conference on "Intellectual Property Rights and Arbitration" will be held at Eastern Mediterranean University. The event is organized by the university's Faculty of Law in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Rights Research and Application Center in memory of the former dean of the faculty, Professor Turgut Turhan.
The conference will take place on May 12, 2026, in the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall and will bring together specialists in the fields of international law, intellectual property, and arbitration. Participants will discuss contemporary challenges in the field of copyright and patent protection, as well as national and international dispute resolution mechanisms.
The first session of the event will be chaired by Professor Berrin Ergin, who previously worked at the Istanbul University Faculty of Law. Key speakers include the President of Istanbul Arbitration Center (ISTAC), Professor Ziya Akıncı, who will present a report on intellectual property disputes within ISTAC.
Presentations are also expected from Professor Nuray Ekşi on World Intellectual Property Organization arbitration and Professor Bilgin Tiryakioğlu, who will address the topic of legal liability of arbitrators.
The organizers note that the conference will serve as an important platform for the exchange of experience between the academic community, practicing lawyers, and international arbitration specialists.
