Rising tensions in the Middle East continue to increase pressure on global energy markets, causing fuel price fluctuations and rising costs for essential goods. This was stated by the Director of the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service, Konstantinos Karagiorgis.

According to him, the situation in world markets remains extremely volatile, and any statements or events related to geopolitics affect the cost of oil and petroleum products daily. Despite this, a slight decrease in prices has been recorded in Cyprus over the past two weeks, primarily for diesel fuel.

Karagiorgis noted that the energy sector continues to influence the entire economy — from production and logistics to food prices, contributing to rising inflation. At the same time, he emphasized that fuel prices in Cyprus are currently "within acceptable limits" according to the department's assessments.

Comparative statistics show that Cyprus remains one of the EU countries with relatively lower prices for petroleum products. According to data from the European Commission and EU monitoring platforms for April 2026, the average price of Euro 95 gasoline in Cyprus was about 1.51 euros per liter, while the EU average reached 1.77–1.79 euros. In terms of gasoline costs, Cyprus ranked approximately 25th among EU countries, making it one of the states with the cheapest fuel.

The average price of diesel fuel in Cyprus was about 1.84 euros per liter, compared to the European average of about 1.91–2.03 euros. The highest prices in the EU were recorded in the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, and Finland, while the lowest were in Malta and Bulgaria.

At the same time, within Cyprus itself, the price difference between gas stations can reach 19 cents per liter. Authorities recommend that citizens actively use digital services to compare prices, including the e-kalathi platform, which allows tracking the cost of goods and fuel in different shops and stations.
